About Industry-Academia Collaboration
Industry- Institute Collaboration encourage industry readiness and improved employability of students through active collaborations between institutions and industries. Employability outcomes are expected to be achieved in terms of enhanced apprenticeships, internships, self-employment, wage employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities for the students. Activities that will be aimed to be covered in this pillar are Internship/Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programme, MoUs signed for Industry – Institute Linkage, and Establishment of Research and Development Cell, alignment of curriculum with industry.
Enhancing HEI-industry connect through guidelines on Professor of Practice to enable HEIs to work with industry experts in developing courses and curriculum to meet the industry and societal needs. Also, enhanced research, entrepreneurship & employability of students will be catalyzed through guidelines on apprenticeship / internship programmes and establishment of Research & Development Cell at HEIs. Presently, 11,578 HEIs and 78,759 Companies are registered on Single Unified Internship Portal providing 54 lakhs internships. Apprenticeship / Internship Programme is being offered by more than 100 HEIs. More than 5,500 HEIs have set up R&D Cell. National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) - Bridge the gap between the skills of students and requirements of Industry by providing high quality on-the-job training (OJT) for fresh graduates. 30 MOUs signed with HEIs for integrating Apprenticeship Embedded Degree/ Diploma Programme (AEDP) with NATS. 8.72 lakh apprentices benefitted in last 5 years. NATS 2.0 portal on 30th July 2024 has further democratized apprenticeships, helping bridge the skills gap, fulfill youth aspirations, and prepare them for the future. Apprenticeship engagement from non-technical backgrounds rose significantly to 2.74 lakh in FY 2024-25, compared to 1.16 lakh in FY 2023-24. Currently, 11,355 HEIs are registered, and over 13,500 establishments are offering apprenticeships through the portal. In the last year, more than 12.12 lakh DBT transactions amounting to ₹489 crore have been processed under the scheme. Center of Excellence in AI- Leading industry partner in conducting interdisciplinary research, develop cutting-edge applications and scalable problem solutions- CoE of AI in Health –IISc Bangalore, CoE of AI in Agriculture – IIT Ropar, CoE of AI in Sustainable Cities – IIT Kanpur and CoE of AI in Education will be setup (Budget 2025-26).
